Grumpy's Bronco Buildup

This follows along with Steve "Grumpy Bubba" as he builds up his Ford Bronco into a custom trail machine.

 

Our Subject: 1969 Ford Bronco

  • Ford 302 c.i. carbureted motor

  • 3 Speed Column shift

  • D20 Transfer case

  • Front Axle: Dana 30 w/ drum brakes and 3.50 gears

  • Rear Axle: Ford 9" Big Bearing w/ drum brakes and 3.54 gears

  • Factory Hand Throttle

  • Manual Steering
The Tear Down: 


Joe and Steve tore the Steel Horse down so that Steve could figure out what else would be needed.

The Rebuild:
Steve started his rebuild by collecting all of the parts needed for the project: 

Front Axle, Rear Lift Springs, Front Lift, 36" tires with wheels, and a Fiberglass tub:

Then Cleaned up the frame with some POR15 and a new paint job:

The Aftermath:
  • 302 c.i. EFI block fr./ a Mustang
  • NP 435 w/ 6.68 first "Granny Gear"
  • D20 (original fr./ vehicle) w/ Twin Stick conversion
  • Front Axle: Rebuilt '76 Ford Bronco Dana 44 w/ Chevy Disc brake conversion, Warn 31 spline axles, Warn Premium Hubs, OX Locker, 4.88 Gears and CTM U-Joints.
  • Rear Axle: Ford 9" Big Bearing (original fr./ vehicle) rebuilt with Warn 31 spline Full floating axles, Detroit Soft Locker, Ford Explorer Disc brakes and 4.88 Gears.
  • Rear Suspension: 5.5" Lift Springs fr./ Jeff's Bronco Graveyard (JBG)
  • Front Suspension: Rock Crawler Lift Springs fr./ Wild Horses (WH)
  • All bushing replaced w/ Energy Suspensions Poly bushings
  • Complete wiring harness
  • Fiberglass body from Malotte
  • Steering: Ford F150 Power Steering Box with a Saginaw Power Steering Pump
  • Video game bucket seats
  • Full Roll Cage
