This is a short write-up on the Rancho 1.5 inch Tacoma front lift springs. The whole spring and shock kit, which includes a 1/4 leveling spacer. Total cost : $268.00 from Central 4 Wheel Drive in CA. Here is a side note- that little spacer can be used to help make 2 inch coil spacers down the road. Above, coils, shocks and magic spacer. |

This is a factory coil on a Rancho RS5000. To remove the shock and strut assembly
DO NOT TOUCH THE CENTER NUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SHOCK, BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN AS IT UN-COMPRESSES IN THE A-ARM AREA. |
|
You need to get your hands on a coil spring compressor to do the next part, which is compress the spring and now remove the top center nut, approx. 19mm, and remove the top coil plate. Once removed you need to compress your new red Rancho spring and place to top coil plate onto that shock assembly. In the picture above you can see Rancho compressed onto the shock and the coil plate holding its tension. |
|
Follow the steps in reverse to install the new spring and shock, place the shock in, put the 14mm nuts on loosely at first and I suggest using a pry-bar in this area to pull the A-arm down and replace the 18mm bolt. More advise is to lightly bend the tabs the 18mm bolt go through a little bit outward so the lower shock assembly will slide in easier. Once in place tighten everything up and put your wheel on. |

Once done drive around the block a couple times, if the truck is leaning use the spacer plate to even the vehicle out. It's proper home is on the lower side of the truck between the coil plate and the tower. There is no safe way around it, just remove the coil assembly and place the plate over the three 14mm studs and re-install. |
